Ranchi, Jul 30 (UNI) Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking enhanced Central assistance for pre-matric and post-matric scholarship schemes for students belonging to Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes, Other Backward Classes and minority communities, saying the existing allocation is inadequate to meet the state's requirements.
In his letter, Soren said Jharkhand, with its large population of socially and economically disadvantaged communities, incurs substantial expenditure on scholarship schemes, while the Central allocation falls far short of the state's actual requirement. He urged the Centre to increase funding, including the Notional Allocation, to ensure that eligible students receive scholarships on time.
The Chief Minister also sought restoration and enhancement of Central support for minority scholarship schemes and said greater assistance to economically weaker and developing states would strengthen educational equity and social justice.
